This past Saturday at UFC 325, exciting lightweight striker Mauricio Ruffy returned to the cage when he took on Rafael Fiziev in a blockbuster matchup.

After spending his camp with featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski, taking a break from The Fighting Nerds, the 29-year-old bounced back with a wild win, knocking Fiziev out in the second round.

And following his incredible performance, the Brazilian sH๏τ for the stars when he called out Conor McGregor and Paddy Pimblett in his post-fight interview.

Ruffy reveals talks began for a potential UFC White House clash against McGregor

Although Ruffy’s callout may have seemed audacious due to the fact he is ranked 14th in the division, he will likely climb significantly up the division with his win over the number nine ranked ‘Ataman’.

And with Pimblett coming off the back of a loss to Justin Gaethje, the number five ranked lightweight will need to fight below himself in the rankings.

Despite the fact that McGregor hasn’t fought in over five years, he is seemingly gearing up for a comeback on the UFC White House event which is scheduled for June 14.

And although it seemed as though he would finally settle his feud with Michael Chandler, that fight was recently shut down by Dana White who revealed it is in the past.

Just hours after his clash in Sydney, Ruffy revealed that his name was mentioned in conversations between the UFC brᴀss when discussing options for McGregor, potentially explaining his post-fight callout.

“It really seemed like (a fight against) Conor was a distant dream but situations have reached our ears here regarding the fight he would like to have,” Ruffy told Laerte Viana.

“Yes (McGregor mentioned my name), he made comments about me fighting him. He said that two strikers of that very high level would sell much more. It would be something closer to what he’s trying to bring in his comeback.

“Not to fight a guy who is coming off several losses and all of that. He wants to do a fight against a guy that’s going to drive the audience crazy. And I said ‘Wow.’ I agreed right away. I said ‘100%, count me in. Let’s go.’ He specifically mentioned my name (in talks), I heard he did.”

Ruffy was compared to a ‘young Conor McGregor’ when he first fought in the UFC

At this point it is relatively unclear who ‘The Notorious’ will fight in his comeback, so all options seem to be live.

And with Ruffy having previously been compared to McGregor in his early UFC fights, a clash between the two would likely be received extremely well by fans.
