Floyd Mayweather and Mike Tyson’s planned exhibition may be ᴅᴇᴀᴅ in the water as the legendary champion appears to have moved on to a new bout.

The boxing icons were due to meet this year in what would have been one of the most intriguing – if bizarre and dangerous – match-ups in recent memory. However, word from both men has gone quiet since December, and now there appears to be a new fight on the table.

After retiring in 2017, Mayweather spent the following seven years taking on exhibition bouts with MMA fighters, celebrities and even an old sparring partner during a world tour of sorts. Meanwhile, Tyson returned to professional boxing at the age of 57 to face Jake Paul in a record-breaking 2024 fight.

After it was announced last year that Floyd Mayweather would fight Mike Tyson in an exhibition, boxing fans remained sceptical about whether or not it would happen. ‘Iron Mike’ will turn 60 this summer, not to mention the pair’s last two weigh-ins were almost 68lb apart.

Now, the bout seems even less likely, as 18-time kickboxing champion Mike Zambidis has released a fight poster that appears to indicate that he is fighting Mayweather this summer. The kickboxer even has a date; June 27, and a venue; The OAKA Arena in Athens, Greece.

The fight is being branded ‘Battle of the Legends’, with Zambidis writing on Instagram that “history is about to be made.” His poster indicates that Mayweather Promotions will be working with their partners at Front Row Fight Series, who helped to put on his bouts with John Gotti III and Aaron Chalmers.

However, Mayweather has not yet commented on this announcement, nor have Mayweather Promotions or Front Row Fight Series.

While appearing at a speaking event in Dublin back in December, Tyson claimed that his bout with Mayweather would be happening in Africa. He also declared that the fight would take place in March, which is now just a matter of weeks away.

He told a raucous crowd at the time: “It’s going to be in March and it’s going to be in Africa. It’s going to be incredible, it’s going to break all the records and it’s going to be one of the biggest events in the history of the sport.”

The fight had been announced by CSI Sports in September, with a vague mention of a 2026 fight date and a global broadcast plan. And while it’s possible that Mayweather could take on two events in a matter of months, it seems implausible.

Back in 2022, he did take on two fights in just 50 days, knocking out MMA fighter Mikuru Asakura in Japan before stopping YouTuber Deji seven weeks later in Dubai.
